On 25-27 November, 2016, Azerbaijan State Agricultural University in Ganja hosted Startup Days held within the “Azerbaijan Startup Festival” jointly implemented by Startup Azerbaijan and ASAN Volunteers.
According to Xeberler.az, the opening ceremony of the Festival was held in Mashati Ganjavi Museum on 25 November.
President of Azerbaijan Internet Forum Osman Gunduz, Chairman of “ASAN Volunteers” Bakhtiyar Islamov, Executive Director of the State Fund for Development of Information Technologies Elchin Zeynalov, representative of Ganja Executive Authority Kanan Mammadov, Head of the Department of Youth and Sports of Ganja Mushfig Jafarov, Deputy Director of High-Tech Park Kanan Bayramov, Deputy Head of Department of the State Agency on Public Service and Social Innovations Jahangir Hajiyev, Director of NEURON company Ismail Alakbarov made speeches during the opening ceremony.
The speakers especially stressed the development of startup movement in regions and the works to be done in this connection.
After that Startup Days has started its work in the Azerbaijan State Agricultural University.
President of Azerbaijan Internet Forum Osman Gunduz, Executive Director of the State Fund for Development of Information Technologies Elchin Zeynalov and official of the fund Akbar Abbasov, Deputy Director of High-Tech Park Kanan Bayramov and Head of Department of High-Tech Park Ulvi Aslanov, Deputy Head of Department of the State Agency on Public Service and Social Innovations Jahangir Hajiyev, Director of NEURON company Ismail Alakbarov attended the opening of Startup Days.
Teaching staff and students of the three universities in Ganja (State Ganja University, Azerbaijan Technological University and Azerbaijan State Agricultural University) attended the opening ceremony of startup days.
Welcoming all participants Vice-rector of ASAU Aida Qasimova has provided wide information about the university. She cordially thanked organizers for holding this event in ASAU. She has noted that innovation ideas are very important nowadays and called the students to be active during the Days.
Right after the opening ceremony “Development of Startups in Regions: Challenges and Prospects” conference has started.
The following issues have been discussed during the conference: formation of startup infrastructure in regions, the ways the new startups can attract investments, initial investment sources for national startups, state, private and individual (angels) support to startups and the role of business incubators, high tech parks and universities in developing new startups.
It should be noted that representatives of the state institutions, officials of Ganja universities, IT experts made statements during the conference as well.
Thus, Elchin Zeynalov, Coordinator for Educational and Social Issues of ATU Raud Amanov, Chairman of Students’ Union of ASAU Agil Mustafayev, IT expert Vahid Qasimov have made their proposals regarding the current challenges of startups in regions and their solution.
After the conference, experts and mentors supported participants in making business ideas and its discussions, and therefore ideas contest has been started.
At this stage students from different universities suggested about 50 ideas. Of them the best 6 ideas were selected.
After the respective teams were formed on the basis of the winner ideas, they have started their collaborative work. Startup Azerbaijan experts and mentors (Vahid Qasimov, Namat Mammadzadeh, Farid Kazimov, Samir Mehti, Talar Rzayev, Murad Hasanzadeh, Huseyn Huseynzadeh) gave their recommendations to teams.
With assistance of experts and mentors the teams have started their works on projects at 10:00 AM on November 26 and kept on working till evening.
Respective trainings were organized for teams as well. Vahid Qasimov moderated the training for those who recently started their internet businesses.
Trainers Farid Kazimov, Vahid Qasimov and Murad Hazanzade gave information about preparation of project prototypes, team work, and important points to be taken into account while project presentation.
On 27 November during the final stage of Startup Days the winner teams were announced.
The teams made 10-minute presentation of their projects before experts. Yesterday a competition has been organized for these projects within the Startup Days and professional jury has evaluated them.

The final presentation of startup Days and announcement of the winners Was held in Ramada Hotel, Ganja.
With this goal Startup Azerbaijan and ASAN Volunteers has jointly organized the closing ceremony of the Startup Days.
Yesterday, ASAN Volunteers has also opened the International Startup Academy within the Azerbaijan Startup Festival.
It should be noted that President of Azerbaijan Internet Forum Osman Gunduz, Chairman of “ASAN Volunteers” Bakhtiyar Islamov, representative of Ganja Executive Authority Kanan Mammadov, Deputy Head of Department of the State Agency on Public Service and Social Innovations Jahangir Hajiyev made statements during the closing ceremony of Startup Days.
Osman Gunduz provided detailed information on works done within the festival. He noted that a lot of events were held during the Startup Days and especially stressed the active participation of Ganja universities’ teams. Osman Gunduz made his proposals on developing this field in regions.
At the end of the event, the winners of Startup Days were announced:
I. Agro Drone - A drone that - minimizes human factor in agriculture, reduces harm to ecology and able to fertilize and spray farmlands for increasing the efficiency. Since the most team members study agriculture their project is mainly focused on agrarian sector.
II. Healthy Food – The demand for organic food is constantly increasing throughout the world. Healthy Food team marks all animals with special chips in farming. Through these chips the customers buying the meat in supermarkets can get information about this animal, medicines taken and vaccination history.
III. Local e-certification – it’s a solution for e-document circulation. It creates a very easy way to eliminate forgery and check documents’ authenticity for different institutions.
Winners and runner-ups have received valuable prizes from Neuron Technologies, SİNAM and Lenovo companies as well as certificates and diplomas from Startup Azerbaijan.
Startup Days are held within Startup Azerbaijan.
Startup Azerbaijan project is supported by the Ministry of Transport, Communication and High Technologies, High Tech Park, State Fund for Development of IT, Neuron Technologies, SİNAM and Lenovo companies.
